A human rights report reveals losses of Sana’a airport and the catastrophic humanitarian repercussions of its continued siege

A new report issued by the Insan Organization for Rights and Freedoms has revealed that the losses resulting from the targeting and closure of Sana’a International Airport during the year 2025 alone exceeded $500 million, with a near-complete paralysis in civil and humanitarian air transport movement.Sana’a – Al-Khabar Al-Yemeni:The report explained that the shelling and systematic attacks targeting the airport from 2015 to 2025 led to the complete destruction of the infrastructure, including runways, aircraft, and operational facilities, affirming that these attacks constitute grave violations of international humanitarian law and could be classified as war crimes according to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court.The report indicates that the ongoing closure of the airport has paralyzed civilian and humanitarian air traffic, deprived thousands of patients of access to medical treatment abroad and forced civilians to use long and dangerous land routes via Aden and Seiyun airports, exposing them to direct risk to their lives and health.The organization added that the shelling operations and imposed restrictions resulted in cases of arbitrary detention and extrajudicial killing of civilians while attempting to travel, in catastrophic scenes reflecting the scale of the daily suffering of Yemenis.The “Insan” Organization’s report affirms that Sana’a International Airport represents a vital element for the stability of eight governorates in northern Yemen, with millions of citizens relying on it as an indispensable humanitarian lifeline, calling for its safe and sustainable restart and its neutralization from any future military activities.It held the coalition led by Saudi Arabia and the UAE, in addition to the US and the Israeli entity in later stages, fully responsible for the attacks on the airport, calling on the international community to open independent investigations, hold those responsible accountable, and guarantee the victims’ right to justice and compensation for damages.The “Insan” Organization also demanded the immediate release of all arbitrarily detained individuals and the securing of freedom of civilian movement at a time when Yemen is witnessing the worst humanitarian crisis in the world, according to a previous UN description, as a result of the ongoing war and siege since 2015.
